The Reflection Inspector

Camera, size, style, output sorting and the Inspector workflow.

English guideSource: Unity 6000.3.13f1 · URP 17.3.011 October 2026

Select a Reflection Surface to find camera, geometry, selection, effects and performance settings in one Inspector.

The Inspector workflow#

AreaHow it works
Connect camera & managerFind an orthographic camera, ensure a manager and enable Editor Preview.
Save custom presetStore reusable settings as your own preset asset.
Refresh reflectionRequest a fresh capture.
Apply presetCopy reusable settings while keeping scene bindings and surface geometry.
Section checkboxEnable/disable the feature while retaining values. Waves, ripples, blur, fade and soft edges also enable Visual Effects.
Settings foldoutShow/hide controls; collapsing does not pause an enabled effect.
Tooltips and UndoHover for help; serialized editing supports Undo and multiple selected surfaces.
Scene ViewMove/resize with handles. Off-screen skipping still uses the source camera's frustum.

The overview is intentionally tall. The chapters show individual sections at readable sizes. A screenshot tooltip is Editor help, not an error; shown values are examples.

Camera, size and style#

FieldPurpose
Reflection checkboxEnable/disable output without deleting settings.
Source CameraOrthographic URP 2D Base camera whose content/view the capture uses.
Surface SizeDestination width/depth in local plane units. Horizontal extends below; vertical Mirror extends left.
Surface TypeDescriptive Lake, River, Ocean, Puddle, Wet Floor, Mirror or Custom category. Changing it alone does not simulate water or apply a preset.
Visual StyleSmooth uses Bilinear capture filtering. Pixel Art uses Point filtering plus its grid settings.
Output sorting layer / orderDraw order for Planar, Cached, Hybrid or Mirror output. Lightweight keeps individual source sorting.

Object layers and sorting layers#

An object layer decides capture membership. A sorting layer/order decides draw priority. If a reflection is hidden by a background, adjust output sorting rather than adding included layers.

For detailed selection, continue to Layers & capture region. For crisp low-resolution output, see Quality & pixel art.
