Choose illustrations, images, independent layers or video, and check framing for each intended device profile.
Background types#
| Type / field | Use |
|---|---|
| Illustration | Built-in illustrated background mode. |
| Image | Sprite, preserving proportions and cropping to cover. Review portrait framing. |
| Video | Clip and poster with optional audio and after-loading playback. |
| Layers | Independent sprites with visibility, tint, offset, scale, depth and motion. |
| Tint / Focal Point | Multiply media color and select the crop's framing target. |
| Multiple entries | Playlist selection and per-entry duration. A controlled after-loading video locks its own flow. |
For layered art, add prepared sprites separately and retain overscan so movement does not expose edges. Emberwood is an example. The package does not automatically separate a flat image into semantic depth layers.
Video, poster and sound#
- Assign Video and Poster in Video & fallback.
- Enable Play Audio if you want embedded video sound. It is off in the supplied screenshot.
- Enable Continue After Loading when the video should finish before gameplay. It is on in the screenshot.
- Scroll for Skip controls, hidden loading elements, natural-end/skip routes and exit transitions.
A controlled video plays once instead of cycling through the playlist. On End and On Skip can independently route to Post-Loading or Gameplay. Video sound uses its own Play Audio control and level, multiplied by session Master and mute. Ordinary Music/Ambience/SFX tracks are separate.
Fallback and Skip rules#
Provide a poster for preparation, missing/error/stalled video and Reduced Motion. An early allowed Skip cannot bypass real loading or required readiness. Check CanSkipVideo before offering the API action.
Test natural end and Skip with the intended post policy. Keep Unity in the foreground during Editor playback checks, then verify the actual player and codec. Check portrait and ultrawide crops as well as the reference aspect.
