Check selected objects and command scope before applying a complete style. Property edits, background-only child actions and prefab inheritance have different effects.
Edit several rows#
The clicked object is a target. When it belongs to the current selection, other selected editable GameObjects are included too. Check the panel heading before a bulk command.
| Action | Scope and behavior |
|---|---|
| Property edit | Change that property per target while preserving unrelated choices. |
| Profile / preset / paste | Apply a complete style snapshot; a template can run its explicit child-color recipe. |
| Apply to children | Copy the first target's resolved complete style to immediate children of selected parents; exclude roots. |
| Apply to descendants | Copy that complete style to all descendants; exclude selected parents. |
| Reset selected rows | Clear own assignments on selected rows only. |
| Reset group and descendants | Clear selected roots and all descendants, leaving unrelated objects outside scope. |
| Undo / Redo | Use Unity's normal Edit menu/shortcuts. |
Use Child colors for background-only consistency that preserves child icons/fonts. Use Apply to children/descendants when complete style replacement is intended.
For child-color actions on nested selections, outer groups run first. An explicitly selected nested group remains independent for its own descendants.
Prefab style resolution#
Prefab-source styles are assigned to source object identities in Editor metadata. Resolution follows:
- Own row assignment: a local scene-instance snapshot wins. Editing an inherited row creates a local override.
- Nearest prefab source, then base sources: variants/nested sources resolve before bases.
- Optional global default: used only without an own/source style; otherwise native Unity appearance remains.
Share a style through its source#
- Customize a prefab instance in Advanced.
- Choose Style prefab source to assign the resolved style to the corresponding source object.
- Choose Reset instance override on the customized instance to return to inheritance.
- Check another existing instance and a new instance. Style a variant source when it should differ from its base.
Moving/renaming an asset with its GUID intact preserves references. Rebuilding a source object with a new local ID may require reassignment. Duplicated prefab assets have new GUIDs and independent assignments. Existing local instance overrides stay in force until reset.
