Use an auxiliary dockable window to bookmark saved scenes and switch with normal unsaved-scene confirmation.
Set up the compact scene bar#
- Enable Settings > Scene Navigation > Enable scene navigation.
- Choose Open compact scene bar and dock Scene Navigation beside/above Hierarchy.
- Assign a saved SceneAsset to Bookmark scene, or use the bar's + with a saved scene open.
- Click a bookmark to open it in Single mode. Unity asks about modified scenes first.
- Right-click a bookmark to Move left, Move right or Remove bookmark.
- Use Recent scenes or the collapse control as needed.
Bookmark behavior#
| Detail | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Identity | Scene GUID preserves ordinary moves/renames when .meta files are retained. |
| Active scene | Matching bookmark is highlighted. |
| Missing scene | Displayed as Missing scene and removable by right-click. |
| Recent scenes | Up to eight saved scene references. Unsaved scenes cannot be bookmarked with +. |
| Bookmark limit | Up to 256 entries. |
| Play Mode | Scene switching ignored during Play Mode/transitions. |
The bar is a separate Editor window because public Unity APIs do not provide safe insertion into the native Hierarchy toolbar. Scene switching follows the ordinary confirmation flow and opens one scene.
