Scene navigation

Bookmark saved scenes in a compact, dockable Editor window.

English guideSource: Unity 6000.3.13f1 · Editor only13 October 2026

Use an auxiliary dockable window to bookmark saved scenes and switch with normal unsaved-scene confirmation.

Set up the compact scene bar#

  1. Enable Settings > Scene Navigation > Enable scene navigation.
  2. Choose Open compact scene bar and dock Scene Navigation beside/above Hierarchy.
  3. Assign a saved SceneAsset to Bookmark scene, or use the bar's + with a saved scene open.
  4. Click a bookmark to open it in Single mode. Unity asks about modified scenes first.
  5. Right-click a bookmark to Move left, Move right or Remove bookmark.
  6. Use Recent scenes or the collapse control as needed.

Bookmark behavior#

DetailBehavior
IdentityScene GUID preserves ordinary moves/renames when .meta files are retained.
Active sceneMatching bookmark is highlighted.
Missing sceneDisplayed as Missing scene and removable by right-click.
Recent scenesUp to eight saved scene references. Unsaved scenes cannot be bookmarked with +.
Bookmark limitUp to 256 entries.
Play ModeScene switching ignored during Play Mode/transitions.

The bar is a separate Editor window because public Unity APIs do not provide safe insertion into the native Hierarchy toolbar. Scene switching follows the ordinary confirmation flow and opens one scene.
